I play with data by day* and dance by night. I've been Swing Dancing since 1998 and Blues Dancing since 2002 in the early San Francisco scene (SF Doghouse, Friday Night Blues). I re-animated Lindy On Sproul (UC Berkeley) from 2004-2007 and am known affectionately as "Grandpa" in that scene. Through that and Blues Playground (Emeryville, 2009) I have taught about 1000 people to dance. In 2011, I moved to Ithaca, NY.
My dance philosophy is toward social dance as conversation rather than as performance. I also incorporate my training in massage therapy and interest in Tai Chi to emphasize that all bodies move differently and that should inform how people dance.
I travel for social dancing a few times a year. Most notably, I've been to Fleur De Lindy (NOLA) since 2009 and go to regional events in Rochester and Albany, NY.
